Happy Monday! Here we go, here we go, here we go again!

After an insane weekend of hanging out with all the cool, pale kids at the Atlanta Gluten-Free and Allergen Expo (excuse me while I push my glasses back up the bridge of my nose), we are ready to kill this week of work and play.

We are going to keep it short and sweet because we are all busy people. But here are a few tips to help start your week off strong.

 

Clean clothes game

Every week I go to do this. And most weeks I give up. But the weeks I complete the task, the rest of the days are smooth sailing.

What on God’s green Earth am I talking about?

Picking out your outfits for the week. Just like your mom used to do when you were in elementary school.

No one wants to try and be creative and cute at 6:30 in the morning when you are tired and wine headachy and stressed about the to-do list on your desk.

Pick out every detail of your outfit the night before (necklaces, shoes, everything). It will make your morning easier, and you will feel great at 2 p.m. when you are in a meeting and so relieved that you decided not to go with leggings and an oversized sweater for the fourth day in a row.

 

Clean eating game

I am fully aware that we talk about food on this blog more often than is healthy. We realize we have a problem. But life is too short to not eat dessert every day.

Pack snacks and a good lunch for yourself. Your work day will thank you.

There is nothing like the disappointment of realizing at 11, with the first pangs of lunch hunger, that you packed half an apple and a slice of ham to get you through the day. Gross.

Give yourself something to look forward to. Bribe yourself. It works.

Pack a lunch that makes you excited. It divides the work day up quite nicely.

Pinterest has ruined us all.

It has made us believe that every other human’s house is beautifully decorated with fresh, crisp linens and overflowing bouquets of sunflowers. Pinterest tricks us into thinking that others have beautiful trays of poached eggs on gently crisped English muffins for breakfast while we are sucking the soggy remains of last night’s pizza out of its take-out box.

And while Pinterest has given us unrealistic home (and stomach) expectations, it does provide wonderful inspiration for quick, easy ways to add dazzle to your home.

We are not interested in a $10k home renovation in this stage of our life; instead, we are in more of a face-lift period.

Chaos and Cleanliness

Good morning and happy Monday, 810ers! Boy, are we ready to get back into our normal, weekly routine! It is time to take a breath, take a deep sip of flavored coffee, and stay with us as we slowly swing back into our day-to-day life.

Our team just came back from New York (and this writer from Vegas) and there is so much to do! Laundry to be washed, lunches and dinners to be made, and gym trips we insist we must take because we just realized that Tortuga is around the corner!

Nonetheless, a clean house is a happy house.

It is important that you take the time to tidy up where you live. It is good for the soul, even though it is one of the worst parts of being an adult. Vacuuming and taxes. This is adulthood.

Now, we are not suggesting that you deep scrub your kitchen floors every night. However, ten minutes a day makes a world of difference for maintaining a chaotic clean.

Being an adult is hard. Taxes are upon us. The floor always needs to be vacuumed. And you need to be fed on a pretty consistent basis.

One of the most joyous and annoying things about being an adult is that you get to feed yourself. This means that, if you want, you can eat Sour Patch Kids for dinner every night! But it also means that you are responsible for the fact that, if you constantly feel sick from the hole those sour monsters are burning into your stomach lining, it is your own fault.

Plan your menu on Sunday. This makes a world of difference. It can be annoying to check recipes and then your cabinets and pantry to see what you need but, starting your week knowing you have all the ingredients for healthy meals matters.

The Sunday Dusk Blues are a real thing around my house. Ever since elementary school, Sundays have been a stressful time for me. I was really sick as a kid and I can remember the sheer joy of Friday evenings, of not having to worry about school for two whole days. And then Saturday would be fun, yeah, okay, we are still good. And then come 4 p.m. Sunday — stress and sadness. In my last year of college, Sunday meant either leaving my long-distance boyfriend or him leaving me to go home. My first job after college (that lasted for a whole twelve days), the two Sunday evenings I experienced were devastatingly depressing because I really did not want to go to my job.

Now I live in the same city as my boyfriend and my sister-best-friend. I love my job. I spend my days laughing with my friends and writing fun things and editing and doing things I love, only to go home to my soulmate and our two dogs.

I apologize for the saga. I usually try to keep our posts light and fluffy and fun. But I realize that, even though I can recognize my patterns for Sunday night stress, they are not unique to me. So many people I know get kinda bluesy on Sunday nights.
