Beachy Authors

Spring is the best time to knock out a few books that have been sitting on your bookshelf all year. The weather is nice, the days are longer, we find ourselves at beaches and pools more.

It is just a good situation all around.

However, finding an excellent beach author can be tricky.

While we want to read amazing novels on all our outdoor adventures (read: drinking things by a pool), tanning weather is not the time to try your hand at War and Peace. There is a delicate balance needed between a hearty read and yet one that won’t cramp your mojito style because the plot is too complicated.

Below are a few of our favorite authors as you hit your favorite vacay spots in the upcoming weeks and try to get your tan on.

Wally Lamb

You cannot go wrong with this guy.

The typical gateway novel for a first-time Lamb reader is She’s Come Undone. However, We are Water and This Much I Know Is True are just as solid.

Lamb focuses on deeply damaged characters who are just trying to make it in this world.

It’s like if Grey’s Anatomy became much more soap opera-y.

His books can look to be of intimidating size but I’ve read most of his books during summer outside time and have no regrets.

Enjoy!

Kristin Hannah

If you are a frequent reader of the blog, you may find this name familiar.

Hannah typically deals in chick lit, but has recently hit a critically-acclaimed winner with The Nightingale. Obviously, that is an incredible find.

But all of her books are great to throw in your beach bag for a long weekend away.

Try Firefly Lane as your next to-be-read-on-the-beach-getting-my-tan-on book. While it is definitely chick lit, it has such an amazing heart that I constantly find myself re-reading it.

Liane Moriarty

If this name sounds familiar but you are not quite sure why, it’s because you have Pinned Big Little Lies and The Husband’s Secret all over your “I’m Gonna Read, I Swear” Pinterest board.

She is another author where everything she writes is golden.

I can’t even suggest a book to start. They are all brilliant.

As soon as you read one, I promise you that you will be immediately buying up the rest of her collection.

I love the surprise twists in her book that are truly surprising. She tells amazing stories about family dynamics and women and you will find yourself relating to more than one of her humanized characters.

Happy reading this spring, 810ers! Be sure to comment below to let us know your favorite author to pack on a long break.
